Job Description:

Barking and Dagenham has amazing potential. Located at the heart of the Thames Gateway with strong transport links to Central London, it has a proud heritage, 530 hectares of green belt and excellent leisure and sporting facilities. Our potential is matched by our ambition with a plan to build 60,000 new homes and create over 10,000 jobs in the next 20 years. Ours will be a Borough where no one is left behind.

We have taken a radical approach to how we organise the council to better position us to face the challenges ahead, particularly rising demand and reducing resources.

This will mean less direct provision, more advice and guidance, working in partnership with others and better commissioning.

The Director of Inclusive Growth will oversee our commissioning approach to place making, regeneration, asset management, investment, housing, employment and skills, as well as the performance of our delivery vehicles, including our new regeneration company, Be First and our Housing Company Reside. With the ability to provide high level strategy and policy advice to the Chief Executive and elected Members around such issues as our industrial strategy and our place in London’s working economy, you will offer fresh thinking, strong stakeholder management skills and a keen interest in making the borough a great place to live and work.

Both roles will need individuals who are modern thinkers and operators, who want to work in a ‘can do environment’ and be ambitious for our place and people in one of London’s most innovative councils.
